ACTING Senate President Ngom’yayona Gamedze is calling for the declaration of prostate cancer as a national disaster.
Gamedze appealed to Health Minister Senator Sibongile Ndlela-Simelane to ensure government kick-started the process immediately so that the disease could be treated the same way government treats HIV/AIDS.
He said it was quite clear that the disease had become so deadly it needed full national attention.
The effort put by government in fighting HIV and AIDS, TB and other life-threatening diseases, Gamedze said, was appreciated and similar attention should be given to prostate cancer as well since it was responsible for the death of several people in the country.
