MALAGWANE

HUGE EXPLOSIONS, FLAMES AT MALAGWANE
By Sicelo Maziya | 2017-11-16

THE notorious Malagwane hill was up in flames on Tuesday night as explosions rumbled, reminiscent of a war zone.

A gigantic double-excel truck carrying gas cylinder stock for AFROX, a Matsapha based company, from South Africa, overturned towards 11:00pm, at the notorious sharp bend at Bahai towards Kapola Guest House at Malagwane.  Police Information and Inforemation Communications Officer (PICO) Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the accident, disclosing that the truck driver was safely rescued by emergency personnel and taken to hospital.  Police further warned looters to stop the habit as some cargo in trucks is dangerous.

Danger

Mamba said the issue of looting also disturbs the emergency personnel on duty. He pleaded with the nation to desist  from looting as industrial elements can be dangerous.   “We must also highlight the seriousness of the accident,  had it happened during the day or during  rush hour, there was going to be  carnage but because it was at night traffic flow was minimal that’s why we can thank the Lord for saving many saved lives,” he said.  The latest accident continues to cement the status of Malagwane hill which is cited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most accident-prone stretch of road in the world.  The truck driver miraculously survived the huge explosions during the carnage that turned the gigantic truck into ruins. The truck lost control and overturned, spilling a cargo of two fully loaded containers of cylinder gas LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Information sourced about Handigas (LPG) is that it is a mixture of butane and propane with the ability to provide effective energy across a broad range of applications. Handigas is a versatile fuel mixture used in homes and industries for heating, cooking, lighting, cooling, and more. The massive explosion created panic to residents living within Malagwane, Mvutshini and as far as Ezulwini as they were forced to come out of their houses in fear of an imminent attack.
